What is the official entry fee?

The official fee to register is $1. Federal Register final rule 2025-17851 set that fee, effective September 16, 2025. Pay it only on dvprogram.state.gov when the official entry is open. Sites that pretend to be the official entry, or that charge you to submit the entry for you, are not the entry form. Paying for an optional photo is not the same thing as entering.

Do I need a passport?

Yes. Federal Register 2026-04737 requires DV entrants to provide valid, unexpired passport information and to upload a scan of the passport biographic and signature page (the passport data page), unless an exemption in that rule applies.

When is the DV-2027 visa processing period?

October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027. The State Department said this on November 5, 2025: Changes to the entry period for the 2027 Diversity Visa program. That window is for selected applicants. It does not mean registration is open.
