Important Country Eligibility Information
Birth Country vs Citizenship
DV Lottery eligibility is based on your country of birth, not citizenship. Even if you're a citizen of an ineligible country, you may qualify if you were born elsewhere.
Derivative Qualification
If your country of birth is ineligible, you can claim your spouse's country of birth. Special rules also apply for claiming your parents' countries under specific circumstances.
Northern Ireland Exception
While the United Kingdom is ineligible, persons born in Northern Ireland can choose to be charged to either the UK (ineligible) or Ireland (eligible) for DV purposes.
